El águila y la serpiente; testimony of the Mexican Revolution
Lagová, Tereza ; Poláková, Dora (advisor) ; Socháňová, Šarlota (referee)
This bachelor thesis concerns the novel El águila y la serpiente / The Eagle and the Serpent by Martín Luis Guzmán. It introduces the historical background of the Mexican Revolution, since the author himself participated in the Revolution and the novel contains autobiographical features. Further, this thesis analyses the motive of a journey undertaken by the author. The journey through the Revolution becomes, to some extent, a journey of self-discovery, and as the author progresses, he meets the revolutionaries who are the main "driving force" of the Revolution. The main aim of this work is to characterize the author's relationship both to the revolutionary events and to the great personalities of the Revolution (e.g. Pancho Villa) and also to portray the way in which he projects his perception of this reality into the work.
